Toby Keith performs for the troops at the O'Ca...

Toby Keith

If the names Toby Keith, Trace Adkins and The Jonas Brothers, don’t ring a bell with you, then you have been living for many years on a desert island.  These three titans of the music industry are coming to the Cruzan Ampitheater at the beginning of this month.  Keith and Adkins are performing September 4, 2010 and The Jonas Brothers are performing September 7, 2010.  Keith is a legend in the country music world.  He is a huge supporter of the Armed Forces and has traveled overseas to perform for them.  The Jonas Brothers, well, what can I say about them?  If you have a  daughter, then you’ll know all about them.

Get ready for boot camp

Have you ever done a boot camp to get fit?  If you haven’t then you should really think about it.  I did one last year and at when I signed up I felt really good about doing it.  I got there, still felt really good, an hour later…didn’t feel that good ( I am not the most athletic person) This particular boot camp was 6 hours long and the instructors really put me and the rest of the group through the ringer.  Driving home afterwards, I tried to convince myself that the boot camp was worth it.  I didn’t need to much convincing, because through all the aches and pains, it really was the best thing I could have ever done.  So much so, I have done several boot camps since and after each time, I felt much better.  Now it’s your turn.  There is a camp near you, Boot Camp Delray is being offered to you by Ground Zero Fitness.  This boot camp is designed to get you fit and ready for the holidays, because let’s not forget, Thanksgiving is just around the corner.  YIKES, closely followed by xmas, but I digress!  Starting September 4, 2010, Ground Zero are offering 1 hour boot camps for the next 11 weeks.  If you are interested you can sign up here.  The boot camp will be at the Atlantic Community High School which is about 5 minutes from Spring Harbor.

Dogs doing what they do best. "You chase ...

what they love doing best

Today is National Dog Day and for those of us who are blessed to be pet owners, this day should be a special one.  I have 2 dogs and I love them to bits.  They keep us on our toes, literally, with all the walks they get.  So, today, I have decided to treat them to a special doggy spa day, they will be groomed and pampered. I mean, who doesn’t want to be pampered?

Here are some other things you can do for your special furry friend.

  1. Get them some doggie treats.  There isn’t a dog I know, that doesn’t like a treat.
  2. Take them to the spa.
  3. Have a play date at the dog park.  Running around with their favorite pooch friend will make them happy and also wear them out.

Whatever you do to make you’re dog happy today, also know that they will love you for it.

The nearest Pet Smart to Spring Harbor at The Landings is 510 Linden Boulevard, Delray Beach.  It is less than 10 minutes from you, straight down Linton Boulevard.

Take a break at Boston’s

Have dinner by the Beach

We all need a break from time to time.  A friend of mine recently told me of this place, Boston’s by the Beach, where you can enjoy good food and great live music.  There is something going on nearly every night of the week, so you will never miss out.  You can experience Boston’s fine dining on The Upper Deck, where you can enjoy you’re meal overlooking the ocean.  Does it get any better than that, because one of the best things about Boston’s is, it’s on the beach.  So, if you’re looking to go and hang out with friends or host a special event, try Boston’s, you won’t be disappointed.

Boston’s By The Beach is about 10 minutes from Spring Harbor at The Landings.

Movie of the week

Posted on August 19, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Jennifer Aniston’s new movie, The Switch has caused a firestorm of debate over the past week.  The movie hasn’t been released yet and already it is causing concern.  Aniston herself has had to defend the movie and it’s subject matter, single parenting, in the press and even got into a war of words with Bill O’Reilly, one person I would not want to spar with, yes, call me a wimp!  Why can’t this movie be seen for what it is, a comedy?  I’ll be seeing it this weekend, for that very reason.

Check out the trailer and here is where you can see it for yourself.

Take a tour of Delray Beach

intracoastal waterway Delray Beach

The phone rings and it’s you’re parents and they are coming for a visit.  The first thing that comes to mind is, “what am I going to do with my parents while they’re here.”  I have been in that same situation before and once the “great, you’re coming to visit,” speech is over, PANIC  sets in.  Not to worry, living in Delray Beach, one of Florida’s premier places to live, there is so much to do and see.  Why not go for a trip to see Delray Beach on one of Captain Joe’s luxury yachts.  This is a great way to see the intercoastal waterway on a sunset cruise.  Each cruise can be specially catered to your specific needs.  You can enjoy this tw0-hour cruise with good food and great live entertainment.  So, if you have no idea what to do when you’re guests arrive, call Lady Atlantic and book a cruise.

Peace and Love

Most of us have parents who back in the day, were hippies!  I know I did.  And then like most things, being a hippie wasn’t fashionable anymore.  But I am happy to say that it’s coming back, the clothes, the music, the nostalgia.  Hippiefest 2010 at the Broward Center is Sunday, August 29, 2010.  Performing at this event is Jack Bruce of Cream, Mitch Ryder and Badfinger, these are just three of the artists who will be there, singing their favorites songs of the time.  So, if you are flower child, then you will enjoy this festival

Kings of Leon

Grammy Award winning American rockers, Kings of Leon are coming to the Cruzan Ampitheater, September 17, 2010.  Known for their alternative rock sound and bluesy sound.  The brothers from Tennessee have taken the States by storm with the release last year of “Use Somebody.”   They have been actively making music and touring the globe since 1999.  They first found fame in the UK and steadily broke into the US.

Paint

Using color in your apartment should be an easy decision, right?  Just pick a color and start painting. Right?  Choosing a color can be quite the task.  I once made the mistake of thinking that my favorite color, brown, would look good in my bathroom.  It looked awful!  What I didn’t do, was take into consideration the size of the room and the fact that a dark color in a small room, is not necessarily the best choice.  Here are some tips I follow to ensure that I am not constantly priming over my painting.

  1. Consider the size of the room you want to paint.  It’s important as larger rooms, can stand a darker color, especially, if you have plenty of light coming into that room.
  2. Choose colors that compliment each other.  Don’t be afraid to choose two contrasting colors.  For example; lime green and pink, was very popular.
  3. Whatever your style is, rustic, natural or contemporary, experiment with colors.
  4. Remember, the color wheel is your friend.  When deciding to use more than one color, use your color wheel to see if in fact they will match.
  5. One tip I have used in the past, is to choose a color from a piece of fabric off the furniture or bedding.  I find this is a great way to compliment the colors.
